The mime

Oh the mime…what an interesting art. I’ve never put much thought into miming; until today. As I was reading through 1 Thessalonians last night, my commentary compared the conduct of Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy to that of a mime.

A mime artist {Greek—mimos, “imitator, actor”}is someone who uses mime as a theatrical medium or as a performance art, involving miming, or the acting out a story through body motions, without use of speech.

These men of God DID NOT:

Come to speak in vain

use flattering words

seek glory from man

 and they DID:

Speak to please God who tests their hearts

Treat the people gently; comforted and exhorted them

Pour into those they ministered to with all they had

Labor all night and pray for them as if they were their own children

My thoughts are, “Who do others see that I am imitating when I am silent?” Interestingly, the mime makes a living without saying a word. The message he sends to his audience is very clear. He never says a word, but you know by his actions what he’s trying to express.

What message do you send when you’re not speaking? Do you tell others how you serve and love, or do you just do it?

We can’t witness to others through complete silence however, during our moments of silence our lifestyle and actions can speak louder than any words we could ever speak.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22

Finally, then, brothers, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more. 1 Thessalonians 4:1

Be Blessed…

All you need is LOVE!

So, what do you write in a Valentine’s card to people you don’t know?

We love because HE first loved us. 1 John 4:19

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 1 John 4:16

Mission Change is a local group that seeks to raise money and awareness for local individuals, causes and organizations in need. They conduct a Monthly Mission to show just how easy (not to mention personally rewarding) it is to make a difference in someone’s life in our community. Our family loves the opportunity to serve along side of them. The mission for February is “All you need is Love”. We’ll be serving dinner to the homeless at the Albany Rescue Mission. Our eldest son has a special place in his heart for these people and since his birthday is on Valentine’s Day, we knew this was a mission we couldn’t miss. Tonight we made 100 Valentine’s Cards to be given to the people who come to be served.

I cut cardstock into halves, printed scripture (written above) on the inside, and we glued red and pink hearts to the front. As we pondered what to write, I couldn’t help to feel blessed to be sitting with my 3 precious children discussing this topic. Trying to stay away from the traditional Roses are red, violets are blue, I feel we came up with some good things. Maybe you can use some of these and create Valentine’s for someone who needs to know the love of Jesus.

  1. May the hand of a friend always be near you. (my favorite)
  2. May God fill your heart with peace and joy. (Em’s favorite)
  3. God Loves You. (Landy Kate’s favorite)
  4. We Love You. (Landy Kate’s other favorite)
  5. When no one cares…God does. (Will’s Favorite)

These were the not so favorites that didn’t make it to print:

  1. Don’t love the guy who lives down there. (Landy Kate)
  2. May the Force be with you.
  3. God or Bust! (this was not my idea lol)

Much Love this season from the Bice Family…Be Blessed.

What is something you plan on doing to show love to others this Valentine’s day?
